Josee completed her undergraduate, Master's degrees, and Ph. D. at Laval University in Quebec city. She received her master's degree under the supervision of Marie Poirier (now at City University in London, England). The objective of her research was to verify an immediate memory model by looking at the effect of phonological similarity and irrelevant speech in immediate serial recall. The Ph.D program at Laval University requires that all candidates conduct internship research. As such, Josee spent four months in Australia where she met wonderful people, interacted with kangaroos, and visited the Great Barrier Reef. During that period, she had the opportunity to do research with Gerry Tehan at the University of Southern Queensland on the effect of proactive interference on immediate memory.
For her dissertation, Josee decided to conduct experimental research in aging, learning and memory. She was interested in studying the capacity of learning as people age, and comparing it to younger adult learning. The supervisor of her dissertation was Sylvain Gagnon, who is at the Universite du Quebec aTrois-Rivieres, and Marie Poirier was her co-supervisor.
At the beginning of October 2001, she joined Lynn Hasher at the University of Toronto and Rotman Research Institute at the Baycrest Centre Hospital as a post-doctoral fellow. She is continuing her research on aging, learning, memory, and circadian rhythm. In collaboration with Sylvain Gagnon, Jonathan Foster and Steven Jongenelis, she is also looking at the learning abilities for people with amnesia. In addition to these projects, Josee is currently working on an fMRI research study, which looks at the time of the day effect for memory tasks.
